Music

Band:

Students will learn to play an instrument, beginning with either the flute, clarinet, trumpet, or trombone and progressing to other instruments, including the oboe, bassoon, alto sax, tenor sax, French horn, baritone horn, and tuba. Students will play in five performances during the year. Yearlong commitment.

 

 

Percussion:

 

This is music course introduces students to the fundamentals of percussion performance and technique. Students will explore a variety of percussion instruments while developing essential skills in rhythm, timing, and coordination. No prior experience is required! Yearlong Course

 

 

 

Orchestra:

Students learn how to play a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, and bass), read music and learn in a cooperative setting. Determination and a good work ethic provide many opportunities to the students. Students perform at concerts and festivals. Some work together at clinics and retreats. Yearlong commitment.

 

Choir:

Choir is a class where you can learn to be a part of a singing team, learn to sing well, and perform as a group in required concerts. It will teach you how to be a musician as well as a singer. If you love to sing or ever wish you could learn to be a great singer, this is the class for you! Yearlong commitment.

 

Guitar/Ukulele:

Learn to play guitar or ukulele! No musical experience is required, but you will learn the rules of music and how to play songs of all styles on your instrument. This class is best enjoyed if you have your own guitar/uke. Semester-long course.

 

 

Mariachi:

 

This class is for students interested in joining Syringa's Mariachi ensemble. Students can learn how to play the instruments and sing the songs of Mariachi. Instruments include guitars, violins, and trumpets. No experience is needed; however, it is appreciated. Yearlong commitment.
