Pre-Engineering: Design & Modeling and Automation & Robotics - Pre-Engineering- Pre-Engineering is a middle school course intended to prepare 8th Grade students to prepare for high school STEM electives. Design & Robotics; Modeling and Automation; Robotics are each semester long courses and in this 8th grade elective we will be focused on the engineering design process. It is intended that the students can then continue learning in more depth in the high school electives if they so desire. Students will demonstrate:
-A desire to: apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology; identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems; desire to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data; and desire to work individually as well as in cooperative groups
-An ability to communicate effectively and appropriately, and appropriately use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice 8th grade students need to come ready to work hard, solve challenging problems, work together with an open mind, and have fun.
-A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning.
Aside from a pencil and composition (GRAPH RULED) notebook, all supplies needed for this course will be provided for your student.
App Creator - This unit will expose students to computer science as a means of computationally analyzing and developing solutions to authentic problems through mobile app development, and will convey the positive impact of the application of computer science to other disciplines and to society. Semester long course.
Medical Detectives - Students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they collect and analyze medical data to diagnose disease. They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, measure and interpret vital signs, dissect a sheep brain, investigate disease outbreaks, and explore how a breakdown within the human body can lead to dysfunction. Semester long course
C.S. Innovator - Throughout the unit, students will learn about programming for the physical world by blending hardware design and software development, allowing students to discover computer science concepts and skills by creating personally relevant, tangible, and shareable projects. Semester long course.
